FEBIOFEST was founded in 1993 by FEBIO, an independent film and television company. During the hard transition period from communism to democracy and a market economy, FEBIO provided almost all important Czech filmmakers with the opportunity to shoot. The Prague festival, starting as an enthusiastically organised, basically no-budget event for friends and film buffs, has in recent years grown into the largest non-competitive film festival in the Czech Republic, which nevertheless still maintains its original profile, as an audience-oriented festival.
