Nové Město nad MetujíThe region abounds with unique pieces of mostly Renaissance and Baroque architecture. The mystical Baroque complex of the Kuks hospital, the chateaux of Častolovice, Opočno and many others take the visitor for a stroll back in time. Each year the region becomes the destination of military history lovers, who re-enact the largest battle of the Prussian-Austrian war, which took place in 1866.

Labyrinths of sandstone cities

The Hradec Králové Region boasts one of the largest and most beautiful zoological gardens in Europe, ZOO Dvůr Králové, especially popular with children. The Czech Paradise, a fairy-tale landscape with labyrinths of sandstone cities, romantic ruins and picturesque specimens of folk architecture, is a frequent destination for tourists of all ages.

Broumov wallsThe ridges of the Orlické Hory and the Krkonoše dominate the northern border area of the Hradec Králové Region. The Krkonoše (the Giant Mountains), the most visited mountain range in the Czech Republic, welcome tourists all year round. The highest peak in the Krkonoše, Sněžka at 1602 m above sea level, is also the highest peak of the entire Czech Republic. In addition to nearly one thousand kilometres of marked hiking trails, there are also several hundred kilometres of biking trails in the Krkonoše. In winter, the visitor can enjoy romantic views of snow-capped mountains or take advantage of modern skiing facilities.

Regional projects

In addition to its natural and cultural heritage, the region boasts of a variety of successful projects. The most interesting among them have been selected by the region itself.

Hospitals on the Internet

The project’s goal was to build a high-speed data environment connecting healthcare organisations established by the region, i.e. between the region’s hospitals, emergency medical services and the hospital management organisation, Zdravotnický holding Královéhradeckého kraje. The facilities mentioned above now have 45 public high-speed internet access points at seven information kiosks and thirty-eight personal computers.

Libraries on the Internet

The main goal of this project is to bring the services provided by public libraries in the region also to municipal public information centres, which will thus provide equal access to traditional and electronic information resources and create equal conditions for the development of high-speed internet and the improvement of information literacy among inhabitants of the Hradec Králové Region.

An atlas of the river Labe on the territory of the Hradec Králové Region

The project is part of the trans-national project ELLA: ELBE – LABE, focusing on flood management through international spatial planning. The goal of the project was to map the Labe river basin in the Hradec KrálovéRegion in relation to possible flooding.
