Contract signed between Gazprom and Naftogaz

Czech Presidency considers the contract between Gazprom and Naftogaz as confirmation of the Saturday agreement between the Prime Ministers of Russia and Ukraine. Immediate and full restoration of gas supplies remains key for the EU.

‘The signing of the contract is the first practical step taken by both parties that could lead to the restoration of supplies to the EU. However, it is necessary to remain cautiously optimistic. For the EU the decisive moment will be the moment when the restored supplies are observed on its borders,’ stated President of the Energy Council and Minister of Trade and Industry of the Czech Republic Martin Říman.

The EU institutions and Member States continue to observe the situation resulting from the interruption of the gas supplies. The Gas Coordination Group that evaluates the impact of the gas crisis and the measures taken to provide help to affected countries addressed the current situation in the Member States at its meeting today in Brussels.
