Minister Šebesta opens the Informal Council of Ministers for Agriculture and Fisheries

Agriculture Minister Jakub Šebesta opened the Informal Council of Ministers for Agriculture and Fisheries today in Brno. This meeting will address the future shape of the Common Agriculture Policy after 2013, particularly the system of direct payments. The Informal Council of Ministers represents the most significant agricultural event organised by the Czech EU Presidency.

“We meet here today to open the Informal Council of EU Ministers for Agriculture and Fisheries; for three days Brno thus becomes, without exaggeration, the capital of European agriculture. I am a South-Moravian – heart and soul- and that is another reason why I am proud that Agriculture and Fisheries Ministers from the whole of Europe meet in this very city,” said Minister Šebesta in his opening remarks.

The programme that is prepared for the Ministers will allow them to become acquainted not only with Brno but also with the South Moravian Region. The Brno City Hall and the Regional Authority of the South Moravian Region also participate in this programme. During the next two days the Ministers will visit the most interesting places in South Moravia.

The topic of the Tuesday meeting is the future of European agriculture after 2013. “An important debate is awaiting us in the upcoming days. The future of the Common Agriculture Policy, particularly the system of direct payments, which will be the main topic for our discussion, is a topic that will be closely followed, not only by farmers from the whole of Europe,”, added Minister Šebesta.
