Statement of Foreign Minister on Deputies’ approval of Lisbon Treaty

The fact that the Lisbon Treaty has been approved by a substantial majority of the Chamber of Deputies is another important step towards deepening European integration.

It is a step towards reinforcing the capacity to act and the unity of Europe and as such has my endorsement. The crisis which has hit us of late has shown us the importance of speaking with one voice.

This is why all the Members of Parliament who have raised their hand for the Lisbon Treaty today, whether they are supporters of the coalition parties or the opposition, deserve my warmest thanks.
