Statement on the reported personal data leak in relation to the EU-US summit
Following recent media reports on the above subject, some of which contain overstated information, the Office of the Deputy PM for EU affairs is issuing the following statement:
„We acknowledge that there had been, for a certain time period, information on EU delegations participating in the EU-US summit available on a computer where data could have been accessed, in a limited way, by public. However, it needs to be emphasized that the file contained no confidential information according to the Czech law and it contained minimum information that might have been seen as sensitive. The file contained solely the data which were needed for the working purposes of the summit organisation team.
The unlucky situation was caused by unintentional human error of one of our employees. As the incident represents a serious breach of working obligations, we have taken the necessary personnel policy measures.
Our internal standards for dealing with personal data have been well in place. In addition, we will take all necessary steps to minimise risks of repetition of a similar situation in the future. We will check and enforce our procedures concerning the work with data.
The information has been immediately removed from the relevant computer in order to avoid further spread.
We regret that this situation has happened as well as any inconvenience which it might have caused.“
