Accession Intergovernmental Conference Postponed
The Czech EU Presidency has decided to postpone the accession intergovernmental conference with Croatia planned for Friday, April 24.
The Czech EU Presidency has decided to postpone the accession intergovernmental conference with Croatia planned for Friday, April 24 since the stalemate in the accession talks resulting from the country’s border dispute with Slovenia has not yet been resolved. A new date is to be set subject to positive development. The lack of headway in the negotiations on chapters that are ready to be opened and closed does not reflect the actual progress achieved on the ground by Croatia.
The Presidency Trio (Czech Republic, France and Sweden) and EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn met with their Slovenian and Croatian counterparts on Wednesday, April 22. The Trio expressed its full support for the ongoing efforts by the Commissioner to find a solution to the situation and a strong conviction that an agreement allowing to proceed with the negotiations is now within reach.
