Brno hosts European Competition Day
On 13 – 14 May, the Czech Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS) holds a Presidency conference entitled “European Competition Day” in Brno.
Every year, this event is hosted by the country holding the EU Council Presidency and offers a platform for European competition policy leaders to address topical issues in the area of economic competition.
This year will be no exception. On Wednesday morning, the conference will be launched by outgoing ÚOHS President and new Interior Minister Martin Pecina at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Brno. Keynote speeches will be delivered on Thursday by the Commission’s Director General for Competition, Philip Lowe. Other speakers include top representatives of anti-monopoly authorities from a number of EU Member States and leading experts from outside the EU, who will speak to over 200 Czech and foreign participants specialised in competition law.
The conference will consist of panel discussions on current issues in the field of competition. The agenda of the opening day features the launch of the conference, the issue of private enforcement of competition law, dominance and the mutual relationship between leniency, settlements and criminal sanctions. On Thursday, panel discussions will address cooperation within the European Competition Network (ECN) and the role of competition in the current economic crisis.
The European Competition Day will be the most prestigious Presidency event in the area of competition and also the most important competition conference ever to take place in the Czech Republic.
