Conference on safety and health at work culminates with awards for good practice 2008

The climax of today’s Presidential conference on Safety and Health at Work in the 21st Century was the announcement of the winners of the 2008 European Good Practice Competition.

Eight organisations and companies from seven Member States were honoured with an award in the ninth year of this competition, organised by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA). The awards form part of the Healthy Workplaces campaign on risk assessment. The award winners and commended entries all promoted good safety and health practices in workplace risk assessment. A new booklet published today showcases the good practice initiatives they have implemented.

Hundreds of organisations and companies from all over Europe entered the competition. The winner from the Czech Republic was Visteon Autopal from Nový Jičín. The jury appreciated the company’s project focusing on risk analysis and prevention on a car engine assembly line.

During the conference, prizes were also awarded for the best works of art in a national children’s drawing competition called “Dej na sebe pozor, mami, dej na sebe pozor, tati!” (Take care of yourself, Mum! Take care of yourself, Dad!). The competition was organised by the Occupational Safety Research Institute and the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the Czech Republic as part of the 2008-2009 European campaign “Healthy Workplaces: Good for you. Good for business.”

The event took place just one day before the World Day for Safety and Health at Work (28 April). It was organised by the Czech Presidency together with the European Commission and the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work.

The list of winners of the European Good Practice 2008 may be found in the enclosed documents.
