Mariánské Lázně Eurofestival to accompany the informal meeting of EU Ministers for Regional Development
The third open-air Eurofestival to be held as part of the Czech EU Presidency will take place on 24 April 2009 in the Arnika in Mariánské Lázně.
An open-air festival will accompany the two-day informal meeting of the EU Ministers for Regional Development. It will be organised jointly by the Representation of the European Commission in the Czech Republic and the Office of the Czech Government to complement the informal meeting of the 27 EU Ministers for Regional Development to be held in Mariánské Lázně, Czech Republic, on 22 - 24 April 2009.
The all-day programme of the Eurofestival in Mariánské Lázně is designed for visitors of all ages. The Eurofestival will offer a varied programme including different types of music, shows for children, creative workshops as well as a discussion with representatives of the European Commission and the Ministry for Regional Development of the Czech Republic, including a presentation of the Czech EU Presidency, EU institutions and individual Member States. Starting mid-morning, info-marquees will host discussions with schools on issues related to the European Union. Music entertainment will be provided by a local blues band Booger, pop singer Jan Vágner and the Yellow band from Karlovy Vary. The evening headliners will include the popular Czech singer Aneta Langerová and the Czech pop star band, MIG 21.
The on-site info-marquees will hold presentations of selected EU Member States, fun competitions and quizzes on Europe, and a presentation of the Karlovy Vary Region. At 14:00, visitors will be able to attend an hour-long discussion with representatives European Commissioner for Regional Policy Danuta Hübner and Czech Regional Development Minister Dr. Cyril Svoboda.
The programme for children will include painting and creative games, balloons show, magic show, clowns and other interesting fun attractions.
