Martin Bursík to represent the EU at the Major Economies Forum

Czech Environment Minister Martin Bursík in his capacity as President of the EU Environment Council will represent the EU at the Major Economies Forum on climate and energy early next week.

The EU delegation will be accompanied by Swedish Environment Minister Andreas Calgren, who will take over the office of the President of the EU Environment Council as of 1 July 2009.

The Major Economies Forum that will focus on energy and climate-related issues was convened to Washington by US President Barack Obama. It will be chaired by US Special Envoy on Climate Change Todd Stern and Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economic Affairs Michael Froman. Washington will thus host a meeting of ministers from the largest world economies to discuss, in particular, the shape of a new climate treaty that should be adopted this December in Copenhagen.

Minister Bursík will be available to media representatives (not accredited to the meeting) on Tuesday 28 April at 7:00 (local time) in the Renaissance Mayflower hotel (1127 Connecticut Avenue, Washington, D.C.) and then between 14:00 and 16:15 (local time) via his mobile phone.
