Meeting of the EPCTF (European Police Chiefs Task Force)
Today the EPCTF (European Police Chiefs Task Force) held a meeting at the TOP Hotel in Prague. In the framework of the Czech EU Presidency European Police Chiefs, or their deputies, from the countries of the so-called extended presidential Troika (Slovenia, France, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Belgium and Spain) attended the meeting. Present were also representatives of the European Commission, the General Secretariat of the Council of the EU and Europol.
The Czech Police was represented by Police Chief Oldřich Martinů, members of the department of international relations of the Office of the Police Chief, the Europol Liason Office of the Czech Police, the Czech Criminal Investigation Department and the Europol National Unit. The Czech Ministry of the Interior was represented by a member of the Education and Police Schools Administration Department.
The EPCTF meeting primarily discussed a presentation of the outcomes of the French EU Presidency. The Czech Police Chief, Oldřich Martinů, then presented the priorities of the Czech Presidency. Among the priorities are international protection of children, a rational anti-drugs policy, the problems concerning organised crime and terrorism, the Schengen cooperation, the Interpol and Europol cooperation and the new structure of Cepol (the European Police College). The participants in the meeting also discussed the preparation of the programme for the meetings of the Police Chiefs of all 27 EU Member States. They will take place in April 2009 (in Brussels) and in June 2009 (in the Hague).
