Press Statement of Prime Minister Jan Fischer on the Ruling of German Constitutional Court

“I see today’s decision of the German Constitutional Court as an important positive step towards the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty and towards institutional stability of the European Union. The statement of the German Constitutional Court that the Lisbon Treaty as such does not contradict the German Constitution can be considered of crucial importance.”

“The strengthening of powers of the German Parliament by an accompanying law, stipulated by the German Constitutional Court as a condition for the completion of ratification in Germany requires national legislation that will govern the functioning of the executive and legislative branches of power under the Lisbon Treaty,” said the Czech Prime Minister.
