Strengthening EU competitiveness – potential of migrant workers on the labour market
That is the title of the thematic conference of the Czech Presidency that will be held on 26 February and 27 February in the Prague Congress Centre. The event will start with a presentation by Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Petr Nečas.
Thursday will be devoted to two thematic sessions. The first session will focus on the potential of labour in the European Union as part of the Lisbon strategy. Various employers will share their experience with employing foreign nationals, with an emphasis on the opportunities to use their knowledge and skills. The effects of these workers on the labour market will be discussed, too.
The second session, entitled increasing EU competitiveness through full use of migrant workers, will discuss the methods used to disseminate key information for migrants and their potential employers. Special attention will be paid to the specific possibilities of helping workers in their integration into the host society.
The Friday’s thematic session will focus on the tools used to remove obstacles to social integration of migrants on the labour market. Among those tools, emphasis will be placed on increased cooperation between the public, the private and the non-profit sector and between the social partners.
In addition to the representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament and the social partners, representatives of the academic world, the public and private sectors and non-profit organisations dealing with migration and integration of foreign nationals will speak at the conference.
A press conference attended by the Czech Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Petr Nečas, and the Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, Vladimír Špidla, is planned in the Prague Congress Centre at 10:30 on 26 February.
