UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs
The effectiveness of drug control will be the focus of the 52nd session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), in Vienna, Austria, from 11 to 20 March. The first two days of the session will be held at ministerial level to assess the progress made in the decade since a Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGASS) set targets to reduce global supply of, and demand for, illicit drugs. This will be the first meeting to take place in the new M building at the Vienna International Centre.
After delivering the statement on behalf of the EU at the High-Level Segment of the CND, Czech Minister of the Interior Ivan Langer will hold a short press conference – 10:30 – 11:00 at building M, before the Plenary Hall, focusing on the EU position as regards the Political Declaration, the EU priorities for the anti-drug policy in the period to come, and on the recent challenges and lessons learned from the last ten years after UNGASS 1998. Representatives of the European Commission and the EU Council will also be present to answer questions.
