EU Presidency Statement on Presidential Elections in Algeria

The EU Presidency wishes to congratulate the President of People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria Abdelaziz Bouteflika to his re-election.

Algeria is an important and reliable political and economic partner of the European Union in the region of Mediterranean. Its role in the mutual fight against terrorism and illegal migration is significant and irreplaceable.

The European Union will continue in close cooperation and remains ready to support Algeria on its way towards economic prosperity, stability and further development of democracy.
