Recalling Mahler in Brussels
- Date: 20.5.2009 — 20.5.2009
- Venue: Czech Centre, rue du Trône 60, 1050 Brussels/Belgium
- Category: Music
Opening at 7:00 p.m.
Few people around the world are aware that the composer Gustav Mahler comes from the Czech Lands. Therefore, the Vysočina Region, from which he hails, has dedicated an evening of song to him in Brussels. Besides the output of Gustav Mahler, the evening will also feature the work of his wife, Alma Mahler-Schindler. The concert aims to outline the links between the composer and Czech culture, and to present his lesser-known works. The songs will be performed by the well-known Czech opera singer Andrea Kalivodová, accompanied on the piano by Kristína Kasíková. The evening will also provide Brussels with a flavour of the international festival ‘Music of Thousands – Mahler – Jihlava’, which has promoted the work and figure of Gustav Mahler since 2002.
