Czech Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs to take part in EP plenary
Today, Alexandr Vondra will speak on behalf of the Council at the EP plenary on a new Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the EU and Russia and the issue of the Arctic. He will also meet with the Council Deputy Secretary –General Pierre de Boissieu.
On Thursday, the Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs will lead “trialogues” on behalf of the Council with two committees of the European Parliament – the Committee on Budgets (BUDG) and the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE). The objective is to reach agreement between the European Parliament, the Commission and the Council on the 5 billion package which will be distributed between projects on energy interconnections, new challenges in agriculture and broadband internet in rural areas as part of the European Economic Recovery Plan. The package has already been adopted by the European Council, but it will come into force only after it has been passed by the European Parliament.
On the agenda is also a Trio meeting – a meeting of representatives of the three subsequent Presidencies – France, the Czech Republic and Sweden - with Commissioner for Enlargement O. Rehn. Deputy PM Vondra, Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt and French Secretary of State for European Affairs Bruno le Maire, together with the Commission, will address the dispute between Slovenia and Croatia hindering Croatia’s EU accession procedure.
