EU - Ukraine Ministerial Meeting (Troika)

The EU – Ukraine ministerial meeting will take place on 5 February 2009 in Prague. The meeting will be attended by President of the EU General Affairs and External Relations Council Karel Schwarzenberg, European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner and Director of the Policy Unit of the General Secretariat of the EU Council Helga Schmid. The Ukrainian delegation will be led by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Volodymyr Ohryzko. Carl Bildt, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden – the next Presidency – has also agreed to attend.
This meeting will address the following issues: the EU – Ukraine relationship, assessment of the situation in Ukraine and other current regional and international issues – the Eastern Partnership, energy, Russia, Georgia, and Belarus.
Briefing on EU – Ukraine Troika
An information briefing on the EU-Ukraine Troika will take place on Wednesday, 4 February 2009 at 10:30, at Czernin Palace, 5 Loretánské Square, Prague (the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs). We ask journalists to arrive at 10:15.
The briefing aims to provide the media with more detailed information on the issues to be discussed at the EU-Ukraine meeting the following day, i.e. above all:
- EU – Ukraine relations (e.g. the Association Agreement, the Eastern Partnership)
- Internal developments in Ukraine as well as in the EU
- Regional and international affairs including energy
Information will be presented by Director of the European Countries Section, director of the North and East Europe Department Daniel Koštoval and Ambassador-at-Large of the Czech Republic for Energy Security Václav Bartuška. Interpreting from Czech into English will be provided.
