The meeting of Security Policy Directors addressed primarily issues involving the following key topics:
- EU - NATO relations
- Development of capabilities of the European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP)
- Future development of European security and internal EU debate on this issue; and
- Current missions and operations of the ESDP
This was the only meeting of the Security Policy Directors held in the course of the Czech EU Presidency. Apart from representatives of all EU Member States, the meeting was attended by two high representatives of the General Secretariat of the EU Council – Director for Civilian Crisis Management Mika-Markus Leinonen and Policy Unit Director of the General Secretariat Helga Schmid. Political Director Martin Povejšil launched the conference on behalf of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The conference was chaired by Director of Security Policy Department Veronika Kuchyňová Šmigolová.
