- Venue: Prague - Czech Republic
- Category: Other Meetings
- Theme: Employment, Soc. Pol., Health and Cons. Affairs
This meeting is held twice a year and its aim is to exchange views and information on current issues, threats, but also future challenges in the area of public health and medical care. Traditionally, the meeting is attended by representatives of the European Commission, the World Health Organisation and the Council of Europe.
As the key priority of the meeting is “antimicrobial resistance”, the Czech Presidency will also welcome representatives of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control whose Director, Zsuzsanna Jakab, has already confirmed her attendance.
The meeting will be held in the Ambasador Hotel in Prague on 16 – 17 March 2009 (Wenceslas Square/Václavské náměstí 5-7).
- First day of the meeting:
The meeting of the chief medical officers will focus primarily on the issue of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and healthcare associated infections (HCAI). The officers will pay particular attention to the experience of the individual EU Member States as regards the implementation of specific AMR and HCAI prevention and control programmes.
- Second day of the meeting:
The above-mentioned significant threats to public health are closely related to the issue of patient safety, the quality of healthcare and the systems of hospital accreditation in Europe. These topics and the presentation of several EU projects (e.g. MARQuiS or the Czech Ministry of Health project entitled “The Book of Safety”) will be on the agenda of the second day of the meeting.
