On 14 – 15 April 2009 an informal meeting of EU Ministers of the Environment took place in Prague. In the afternoon of 15 April the meeting continued at Křivoklát Castle in the Central Bohemian Region.
During the informal meeting the Ministers discussed two closely related aspects of climate protection, which is also the main priority of the Czech Presidency in the environment area.
First, they addressed the problem of adapting to climate change with emphasis on the European context, especially in relation to changes in the water cycle as a result of climate change. The Ministers discussed the future EU strategy for adaptation and exchanged information on the introduction of concrete national measures.
The second part of the meeting was centred on the international negotiations on climate protection after 2012 and the EU strategy for the meeting of the signatories of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Copenhagen in December 2009.
