14th Ministerial Meeting EU - Rio Group

On 11 – 14 May 2009 the Czech EU Presidency organises the 14th joint meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the EU and the Rio Group in Prague.

The meeting is one of the largest events of the Presidency on the territory of the Czech Republic. EU-Rio is among the most significant forums for political dialogue between the EU and Latin America and the Caribbean. The Group, presided over by Mexico, consists of a total of 23 Latin American and Caribbean countries. Its importance has grown considerably in the last few years.

The meeting of 27 EU Foreign Ministers and 23 Foreign Ministers from Latin America and the Caribbean will be held at the Prague Congress Centre on 13 May 2009. An EU Troika meeting with subregional groups (the Andean Community, MERCOSUR, Central America), the meetings of the 4th EU-Chile Association Council and 6th EU-Mexico Joint Committee will take place on 14th May 2009.

A meeting of experts of the EU and the Rio Group will take place on 11 and 12 May in the Prague Congress Centre.

In addition to the official languages of the Presidency, i.e. English, French and Czech, the output from the meetings will be published in Spanish. Press conferences will be broadcast live in Czech, English and Spanish on the Czech Presidency website.
