Presidency Motto
By choosing “A Europe without Barriers” as its motto, the Czech Republic expresses its will to remove the remaining obstacles between EU Member States, in particular in regard to the internal market – the free movement of goods, services, persons and capital, including the complicated EU and national legislation.
These barriers make it impossible to make full use of the potential of individual countries and the European Union as a whole.
At the same time, the motto expresses Europe’s openness to the outside, toward the entire world.
2009 will also mark the twentieth anniversary of the fall of the Iron Curtain and the fifth anniversary of the historic enlargement of the European Union. Therefore, the Czech Presidency’s motto also has a symbolic dimension.
The motto of the Czech Presidency – “A Europe without Barriers” – was approved by the Czech Government in February 2007.
