EU Presidency statement on the attack against an EUMM patrol near the Abkhazian administrative boundary
The Presidency strongly condemns the attack on Sunday against a patrol of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia, near the Abkhazian administrative boundary, in which the driver of an accompanying medical vehicle was killed and the doctor was injured.
The Presidency extends its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Avtandil Akhaladze, the deceased driver.
The Presidency recalls that EUMM is an unarmed mission that aims at normalisation of living conditions in the region, and reiterates that any attacks on EUMM's unarmed monitors and their patrols are absolutely intolerable.
The Presidency appeals to all parties on the ground to assume their responsibility for ensuring stability and security in the territories under their control.
The Presidency insists that the perpetrators of this attack must be brought to justice.
