EU Presidency Statement on the bomb attack on the Baghdad marketplace

The Presidency strongly condemns the bomb attack on a crowded Baghdad market, resulting in a tragic death of at least 72 people and many injured civilians.

The Presidency expresses the sincerest condolences to the families of dead citizens and deep sympathy to all who were injured a result of this terrorist assault. The Presidency insists that the perpetrators of this act must be brought to justice as soon as possible.

The Presidency strongly rejects any attempt to undermine peace and stability in Iraq, denounces any form of violence as a means of political struggle and calls for the cessation of terrorist attacks aimed at jeopardizing the process of national reconciliation.
