Brussels exhibition shows students’ posters portraying Europe without Barriers
On the occasion of the coming meeting of the European Council an exhibition of posters on the theme of Europe without Barriers will be on display in Brussels.
The exhibition will be opened on 10 June at 16:00 by Czech Minister for European Affairs Štefan Füle together with European Commissioner Vladimír Špidla and Senator Jiří Dienstbier. It will be installed in front of the building of the European Commission - Berlaymont Esplanade, Rue de la Loi, 200.
25 large panels will show the works originally made for a competition for students of Czech art colleges. The competition called “Europe without Barriers” was organised by the Czech Council on Foreign Relations with the participation of 186 students from ten colleges.
Students of Czech art colleges have chosen an unconventional means of expression for a debate on important and abstract European issues – a poster. By means of graphic design of posters they seek answers to the following questions: Does Europe without barriers exist? What form do these barriers take? Will the removal of barriers help address global challenges? At the same time, however, the future artists approach the theme with a certain detachment and sense of humour. The exhibition is intended for the general public, which is also emphasised by the open-air installation itself.
The exhibition was also presented in Prague at the beginning of the Czech EU Presidency and, in the framework of regional Eurofestivals and on the occasion of informal ministerial meetings, in České Budějovice, Mariánské Lázně, Litoměřice and Brno. It will travel to Stockholm in June/July.
The exhibition received the status of the accompanying event of the Czech EU Presidency and was organised by the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic and the Representation of the European Commission in the Czech Republic. The project was devised by Jiřina Dienstbierová and its artistic quality is guaranteed by prominent graphic designer Karel Míšek.
