Eurofestival in Brno a great success

A series of five regional Eurofestivals accompanying the informal ministerial meetings held during the Czech Presidency was rounded off in Brno.

A Eurofestival, organised by the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic and the Representation of the European Commission in the Czech Republic accompanied the Informal Meeting of EU Agriculture and Fisheries Ministers that was held on 31 May to 2 June 2009 in Brno. Eurofestivals had previously taken place also in Zlín, České Budějovice, Mariánské Lázně and Litoměřice.

The info-marquee of the European Commission hosted discussions with experts for schools on issues relating to the European Union. The European Commission was represented by William Martin from the Directorate General for Communication, who also answered questions from the general public in the mid-morning part of the festival. Information on the Czech Presidency as well as the European Union was provided throughout the festival by employees of the Brno Eurocentre. Several EU Member States also had info-marquees in Brno.

There was a special programme for children including trampoline jumping and clowns.

The main stage offered a varied cultural programme. During the day a popular TV competition, “Za školou”, held a number of events on the main stage; a dance performance by the Academy from Řekyň and other groups from EU Member States also took place. The programme, visited by approximately 25 thousand people, was enriched by performances of singers Lívia Ághová, Monika Bagarová and Josef Vágner and by a concert featuring the groups Mako!Mako and Navigators. The evening performance by Aneta Langerová, attended by 3,000 visitors, was also a great success. The Eurofestival was concluded by a concert with MIG 21 that was received with great enthusiasm by approximately 5,000 visitors.
