Minister Šimerka to speak at 17th international conference on social services
The 17th international conference on social services , which will take place on 22-24 June in Prague, will address the quality and performance of social services in Europe. The event will be attended by Czech Labour and Social Affairs Minister Petr Šimerka.
The conference dedicated to the quality and performance of social services in Europe, listed on the official Czech Presidency agenda, is probably the most comprehensive event so far responding to the important debate on the definition of quality in social services. The conference will bring together a wide range of experts and other interested participants from the public, voluntary and commercial sectors as well as from state administration and local authorities. Among others, the conference will be attended by European Commissioner for Employment and Equal Opportunities Vladimír Špidla, Swedish Minister for Elderly Care and Public Health Maria Larsson. Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Petr Šimerka will assess the contribution of the Czech Presidency to the development of social services.
The conference will focus on key issues such as the existing systems of social services quality assessment in different parts of Europe, ways of evaluating their effectiveness, options for the clients of social services to help monitor service quality or the question where to strike a balance between costs, performance and the quality of social services.
The conference is organised by the European Social Network (ESN) in cooperation with the Union of Towns and Municipalities of the Czech Republic, which is also a member of this network. The event is organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
A press conference on the relevant topic will take place on 22 June 2009 at 16:00 in the big meeting room at the offices of the Union of Towns and Municipalities (Prague Congress Centre, entrance no. 9, first floor). It will be attended by Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Petr Šimerka, Swedish Minister for Elderly Care and Public Health Maria Larsson, President of the Union of Towns and Municipalities Oldřich Vlasák and President of the ESN, the organiser of the event, Lars-Göran Jansson.
