Petr Šimerka will discuss the challenges of the mobility of workers with other Labour Ministers in Geneva
As part of the activities of the Czech Presidency, Minister Petr Šimerka will meet with Labour Ministers from France, Sweden, Spain, Turkey, Morocco and Ukraine today (16 June 2009). The objective of this meeting is to discuss the topic “European labour markets – opportunities and challenges of the mobility of workers.
This event is an informal meeting of representatives of Presidency countries (the previous Presidency, the current one and the two succeeding ones) with representatives from countries with a significant share of the workers migrating into the EU. European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities Vladimír Špidla, representatives from the International Labour Organisation and international associations of social partners will also attend the informal meeting.
The meeting will take place as a part of the so-called ministerial week of the 98th year of the International Labour Conference that takes place from 3 – 19 June 2009 in Geneva. The main topic of this year’s meeting is the impact of the current financial and economic crisis on employment and social policy. On 15 – 17 June a Global Summit for solutions to the jobs crisis, which is attended by several heads of state and government, is taking place during the conference. Its main objective is to discuss aspects of international reactions to the global crisis. Minister Petr Šimerka represents Czech Prime Minister Jan Fischer at the summit.
He will also participate in a bilateral meeting with a delegation from the International Labour Office and, at a request of China, also with Minister for Human Resources and Social Security of the People’s Republic of China Yin Weimin.
