From South Bohemia to the Edge of the World: Official start of the march of the delegation in Blatná
- Date: 29.3.2009 — 29.3.2009
- Venue: Blatná/Czech republic
- Category: Others
Peace Mission.
The aim of the project is to support the prestigious Czech Presidency of the EU Council and thus confirm the position of the Czech Republic in the new European order. The plan is based on the idea to create a union of European countries that was initiated and introduced in the mid-15th century by an influential Bohemian king, Jiří of Poděbrady, who supported the idea through the means of high-level diplomatic negotiations. To advance the creation of the union, the Bohemian king sent a mission to all European countries led by his brother-in-law, South-Bohemian noble Lev of Rožmitál and Blatná. The story of their diplomatic and fact-finding journey through Europe, which lasted two years and was chronicled in detail, is one of the greatest achievements of the late Middle Ages and represents the maturity of the national culture and knightly virtues, as well as providing a unique depiction of the contemporary European countries. The connection with the modern ideas of the European Union is alive and very distinct.
- Programme:
Opening, cultural programme, speech of the Governor of South Bohemian Region, press conference. The main event of the programme is the official start of the march, when the recommending documents signed by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of several countries will be delivered to the delegation, similarly as in the case of the journey through Europe in the 15th century.
