Golden Track Shoe (Zlatá tretra)
The Golden Track Shoe, held in Ostrava, is an athletics meeting attended by the world’s top athletes. It has been placed in the Super Grand Prix category (Grand Prix in 2006), i.e. the second highest category (after the Golden League).
Horse-racing
A distinctive atmosphere complements the Velká Pardubická Steeplechase, the most difficult race of its kind on the European continent, first held in 1874.
Skiing
Cross-country skiing World Cup events are held in Nové Město na Moravě (Zlatá lyže - Golden Ski). The best-known Czech cross-country race is the Jizerská Padesátka 50 km ski marathon. In 2009, the city of Liberec will host the Nordic World Ski Championship. Several Alpine Ski World Cup events have taken place in Špindlerův Mlýn.
Prague International Marathon
The Prague International Marathon takes place in Prague’s historical centre. The race routes, crossing the city centre, are regarded as some of the most beautiful in the world. The scenery of Charles Bridge, with the view of Prague Castle, attracts thousands of people from more than 60 countries around the world to the race.
Primátorky Regatta
The Primátorky Regatta is held in the centre of Prague and has a long tradition - 2008 was the 95th year of this popular men’s eight race.
Czech Open Floorball Tournament
The Czech Open floorball tournament has been held since 1993. It is the largest sports event of its kind in the world. In the opening group stages, teams play on courts all over Prague. In 2007, there were altogether 224 teams from three continents. Compared to other countries, the Czech Republic has the fastest growing floorball fan base.
Motorsports
The Czech Republic enjoys a rich tradition as a motorsport host. Rally is particularly popular in the country boasting the Škodamotorsport factory team. The best-known race is the Barum Rally, featuring among the elite European competitions with the highest difficulty coefficient of 20. Among the most important motorcycling races are the Masarykův Okruh (Masaryk Circuit) in Brno and the Velká cena České republiky (Czech Republic Grand Prix). Pardubice, in East Bohemia, proudly hosts the Zlatá přilba (Golden Helmet) flat racing event, which the experts say is one of the fairest events in the world thanks its rules.
