Le Figaro – EU - Prague wants to reopen accession talks with Turkey
“Turkey is getting closer and closer”, the French conservative daily Le Figaro quotes Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg in an article about one of the priorities of the Czech Presidency, i.e. the enlargement of the EU to include Turkey. The article mentions a meeting in Prague between Karel Schwarzenberg and his Turkish counterpart, Ali Babacan, and stresses that the two politicians agreed that the negotiations on Turkey’s accession should continue. The paper also points out that on this issue the Czech Presidency has the support of US President Barack Obama and Sweden, which will take over the Presidency after the Czechs. French President Nicolas Sarkozy, on the other hand, has made very hostile remarks about the possibility of Turkey joining the EU.

Népszabadság: Trump
The trip of Czech Prime Minister and President of the EU Coucil Mirek Topolánek to Moldova will play a crucial role in the history of the European Neighbourhood Policy, reported the Hungarian Daily in the context of Romania’s sharp attack on Moldova’s prospective accession to the EU. Moreover, Romania reportedly interferes with EU-Moldova relations by “giving out Romanian passports” to Moldovans. According to the article the new EU problem can be identified as a million new Europeans outside the EU borders.

Népszabadság: Two question marks remain hanging over Prague
An article in the Hungarian daily Népszabadság addresses the future of the Czech Government in the context of the Czech Presidency of the EU Council. The article regrets the fact that Karel Schwarzenberg, who is very well respected, will not remain in the office of Minister of Foreign Affairs. Instead, the office will be assumed by his deputy Jan Kohout.
Le Figaro: Topolánek is expected in Kishinev
French daily Le Figaro brings information about an important trip made by Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek, in his capacity as President of the EU Council, to Moldova. He is the first European politician to visit Moldova after the recent violent protests.
