    The Jihlava Declaration Will Improve Public Awareness of the Importance of Forests

    29.6.2009The Jihlava Declaration suggests how the importance of sustainable forest management might be brought home to the public. The document was adopted at a meeting of directors responsible for forests in EU countries, which was held in the Vysočina Region from 22 to 25 June 2009. The main background material for the declaration were the outputs of the expert workshop “TAKING US OUT OF THE WOODS”, held in the Pardubice Region in early June.

    International conference on Holocaust marks the end of the Czech Presidency

    29.6.2009On 26 – 30 June 2009, Prague and Terezín will host the Holocaust Era Assets Conference, which should raise awareness of this dark chapter of European history and of social programmes for Nazi victims.

    Ministerial Troika EU – India

    29.6.2009An EU-India Troika ministerial meeting will take place today in Prague. The meeting will be attended by the EU GAERC President, Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Jan Kohout, the EU Commissioner in charge of External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, and the High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union, Javier Solana.

    Accession IGC with Croatia called off

    24.6.2009The Czech EU presidency has decided to cancel the intergovernmental accession conference with Croatia planned for June 26.

    Agriculture and Fisheries Council in Luxembourg

    23.6.2009The Council will meet at 11:00 on Monday 22 June to address agriculture issues, chaired by Jakub Šebesta, Czech Minister of Agriculture, and in presence of Mariann Fischer Boel, member of the Commission.

    Czech Presidency rounds off European Council with success

    19.6.2009Chaired by the Czech Presidency, the European Council gave the green light to the guarantees for Ireland so that a new Irish referendum on the Lisbon Treaty can take place. The Council also agreed on the new European Commission leader; it found consensus on conclusions concerning climate change and reached political agreement on the new European framework for financial supervision.
