Overview of the most imortant legislative acts settled during the Czech Presidency as of 31 May 2009
3.6.2009One of the foremost duties of the Presidency is the search for compromise wordings of new EU legislation acceptable to the Member States and, where co-decision applies, also to the Council and the European Parliament. The legislative procedure of the European Union being a continuous process, a number of legislative proposals in different stages of the adoption procedure were handed over to the Czech Presidency by the French Presidency.
Brno at the centre of EU agriculture
2.6.2009One of the top Presidency events, the informal meeting of Ministers for Agriculture and Fisheries, will bring together almost twenty Ministers from the whole of the EU and hundreds of agrarian experts, who will meet in Brno on 31 May – 2 June. The meeting will focus on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy and, above all, the system of direct payments, the unequal distribution of which has, for a long time, been an object of complaint by farmers from new EU Member States.

This meeting will address the future shape of the Common Agriculture Policy after 2013, particularly the system of direct payments. The Informal Council of Ministers represents the most significant agricultural event organised by the Czech EU Presidency.
